Strategic Planning Organizations all share the need to understand the environment in which they operate and to proactively analyze their operations and plan future directions. Successful organizations have three pillars that support their success-processes, people, and planning-and must pay continual attention to all three. Even with excellent processes and highly skilled and dedicated employees, an organization without a sense of its market potential cannot plan for its success or achieve its purpose: a great ship and crew, but no direction. The planning pillar focuses on research and other initiatives that provide insight into areas related to the organization's purpose and future direction.
