Career Success Academy™

CESD supports career development for students at WVU with a comprehensive program that lasts from the freshman year through graduation.

The Career Success Academy™ is a special initiative to support students in developing their careers. The basic mission of the Career Success Academy is to provide students with career support from the freshman year through graduation. We operate the Career Success Academy for West Virginia University.

The Career Success Academy offers five courses to students.

  1. Exploring Career Options - Identify student interests and abilities in order to choose a general career direction and an academic program that supports it.

  2. Becoming Career Ready - Assess a student's personal and professional skills, and identify specific areas for improvement that are needed for the student's chosen career direction.

  3. Gaining Experience - Undertake activities to acquire career-related experience, and use this experience to assess the career choice.

  4. Finding the First Job - Develop and successfully execute a strategy for obtaining a first job that is consistent with the student's career interests.

  5. Starting Your Career - Prepare to start a career and understand what it takes to be successful.

In addition to the learning clusters, the Career Success Academy offers other assistance.

  • A network of alumni to serve as mentors for students and provide the Career Success Academy with information on job opportunities.

  • Career profiles to give students examples of successful alumni in a variety of career areas. Students will find that there are numerous opportunities for interesting careers from every major, whether humanities, sciences, or professional fields.

  • Career connections to help alumni when they have career needs like counseling and job referrals.
