Internet-based Training

Modern organizations are becoming increasingly focused on training their workforces. Once a need for training has been determined, organizations often turn to the classroom lecture-discussion formula or to videos to fulfill their training requirements. However, these techniques often prove ineffective ways to communicate important information to the workforce.

Organizations need to investigate a variety of options when determining how to train their workforces. Surveys reveal that employees at all levels of an organization prefer interactive training to the 'chalk and talk' lecture method. Most people retain more information if it is presented in small bits rather than in one session. However, most organizations cannot afford to provide interactive frequent training to their employees.

CESD has developed web-based training courses in a variety of areas that are common to many industries, such as safety training based on OSHA and MSHA regulations. Web-based training allows employees to spend short periods of time reviewing material and then taking an evaluation. On-line instructors are available to answer questions and provide feedback based on the evaluation.

Some advantages to web-based training include

  • Employees can participate in training during downtime periods.

  • Training can be delivered at any time of the day or night.

  • Instructors give individual, personalized feedback immediately, correcting mistakes before they become safety, quality, or production problems.

Unlike CD-ROM training course, web-based courses can be changed instantaneously as information changes. Web-based materials do not become obsolete the moment a regulation changes.
