CESD has helped organizations make basic improvements in the way they function by providing independent assessments of an organization's performance and developing strategies for improvement. Performance management and business process reengineering are two areas where CESD has been very successful in making improvements.

CESD has established performance management systems in a number of organizations. These include the development of a performance management strategy for the organization, followed by extensive coaching and mentoring of managers at all levels.

Although related in many ways to TQM, business process reengineering focuses on more directive approaches to changing and improving processes, organizational communications, technology, and training.
